Thousands of children are hospitalized in Canada each year. During the COVID-19 pandemic, these hospital visits are more difficult on kids and teens than ever.
With many pediatric patients being immunocompromised, these children are at the highest risk of infection and their lives are dependent on isolation. Now more than ever, their time in-hospital is spent alone in their room – no visitors allowed or chests full of toys to play with for fear of infection. Our original in-hospital distraction programs have all been depleted as hospitalisations increased and infection control became all that more vital, meaning these items can no longer be shared between children.
Starlight Canada has been working tirelessly with our healthcare partners to expand our Play From Home Program into hospitals. With the recent adjustments to restrictions and hospital protocols, we have launched a new Play From Hospital Program, and we need YOU!
With growing demand and a list of already 10,000 requested packs, the Play From Hospital Program will cover over 100 hospitals across the country. Happiness shipped safely to the hospital, these packs will include board games, crafts, toys, and countless other interactive activities designed to provide valuable distractions and smiles for seriously ill children during their hospital stay. As evidence shows that improving the mental and social well-being of patients can have a positive impact on their physical health, each child will receive their very own pack to reduce the risk of cross contamination.
For $100 today, YOU can send a kit to a hospitalized child and deliver joy directly into the safety of their hospital room. With tens of thousands of hospitalized children, we are relying on people like you in these urgent times to ensure no child is left out. They may be isolated and scared in-hospital, but with your help, we can let them know they are not alone.
